all while pondering the fate of those empty bottles!
So when I decided to illuminate my own candle business, it was only fitting to honor the origins of my journey with a name that reflects where it all began.
Flicker and Flame is all about bringing you eye-catching and eccentric creations, which will add personality, glamour, style and even a touch of humour to any interior.
The collection is all designed in-house - and is intended to bring a wild reworking of the traditional — blending the classic with the modern. Promising to inject a feeling of the exotic and erotic into your home.

Driven by all things vintage, vegan and ethical, Flicker and Flame takes a cruelty-free approach in sourcing every item we use to create our candle holders. We take great pride in the lengths to which we go to find stunning, often unique bottles which sit alongside antique crystal glasses. Even now we are in the process of fashioning beautiful tea lights out of perfume bottles, and creating garden candles with wind proof wicks - Watch this Space!
Stage 1. From the cherished finds from friends and family, along with my own covert collection of drinking vessels, a captivating blend of the old and new has emerged. With years of experience in curating vintage goods both online and offline, my sourcing expertise is the foundation of our creative process. We carefully select only ethically sourced bottles, ensuring that our candles are not only a luxurious delight but also vegan and 100% cruelty-free. This commitment brings to life our unique and upscale creations, each a story waiting to be told.
Stage 2. The whole process I use derives from my passion of beautiful objects and is time intensive.
Wicks are attached to the bottom of the cleaned, cut, polished bottles and the candle wax is poured in small batches. We use 100% soy wax to create a clean burn - it's a technique used by many makers globally. It has the added benefit of supporting the soybean farmers who are under intense economic pressure. Alternatively, we also use soy gel wax, which is translucent, vegan, natural and biodegradable with the consistency of jelly. This gives the wax a slow melt rate and the finished candle will have a longer burn time, making it good value for money, despite its initial expense. It's because of the clarity of the gel, wax, that it's common to find embeds inside, such as sliced dried fruits, small glass ornaments, glitter or anything that won't melt at a temperature lower than the wax. The luxury effect is enhanced by scents
and harmonious items and left to set.
Stage 3. We only use reclaimed bottles and glassware which are subject to flaws.
But it's this perfect imperfection that makes them special.
Stage 4. One advantage of my candles being formed from glass bottles and containers is that they can be used for your continued enjoyment. Once your candle has burned down, leave approx 5cm of wax in the bottom of the container. Then you can either send it back for me to refill. Or, if you're feeling adventurous, get in touch and we'll happily walk you through the process of trying it for yourself. There would be no charge, of course - I am just be thrilled to help.
